The Grampians (Gariwerd) rise sharply from the western Victorian plains — rugged sandstone ranges and forest wrapped around the tourist town of Halls Gap. Hipponics Firewatch plots current fires and warnings from VicEmergency across the ranges — Halls Gap, Stawell, Ararat and Dunkeld — alongside satellite hotspots and live conditions.
Open the live Grampians fire map →The Grampians have burned repeatedly. Major fires swept the ranges in 2006 and again in January 2014, when the Northern Grampians fire destroyed dozens of homes around Roses Gap and Halls Gap, and further fires struck the ranges in early 2024. Steep, rocky terrain and a single valley town (Halls Gap) ringed by bush make fire behaviour here fast and hard to predict — campers and visitors are especially exposed. Hipponics Firewatch is a situational-awareness tool, not a replacement for official warnings.
